STRATEGY & OBJECTIVES
To become a thriving and sustainable city, we must address the root cause of our governance challenges: a need for strong decision-making and problem-solving capabilities. These shortcomings can be resolved through a city charter drafting and adoption process. For the Chicago City Council to embrace such a transformative initiative, council members must view it as essential to their political survival.
1. Holding Events: Building a Big Tent Coalition
The Chicago Growth Project will host events to emphasize the importance of the charter initiative while actively recruiting and training a diverse pool of potential candidates. In 2025, our focus will be on:
-
Developing and promoting the narrative around the charter's necessity.
-
Attracting potential candidates and resources to support our mission.
-
Building a citywide coalition by engaging community leaders and organizations, particularly on the South and West Sides.
Establishing Metrics: Demonstrating Commitment to Progress
To ensure measurable progress, we will establish metrics to guide resource allocation. Possible metrics include:
-
Number of dues-paying members.
-
Number of organizations engaged.
-
Number of event attendees.
-
Number of participants in candidate recruitment and development activities.
-
Number of social media followers and newsletter subscribers.
We will consider tracking these metrics on a public-facing dashboard to enhance
transparency and accountability. Additionally, we should explore creating a sign-on page for pro-charter elected officials and organizations unless a nonprofit ally can take on this task.
Recruiting and Supporting Reform-Oriented Candidates
Our candidates will reflect Chicagoans' concerns, be able to reform the city, conduct sound economic policies, advocate for Chicago’s interests globally, and embody our vision for a brighter future.
